Goals and Objectives of Organization:
Our goal as an organization is to see Aboriginal artists expand their opportunities by providing a space in which they may develop through exhibitions, curatorial opportunities or programs dedicated to professional development. Our organization delivers professional development resources to contemporary Aboriginal cultural workers to assist them in development of a professional art practice, self-promotion and self-management. Although our main objective is to promote contemporary Aboriginal art, we are not exclusive; we encourage non-Aboriginal peoples to participate in our programming. We feel that the inclusive nature of our organization creates context and dialogue with Aboriginal contemporary art and art history.
We have as an organization strategically situated ourselves in Saskatoon’s west side where there is a proportionately high Aboriginal population; this is to become a visible part of the community that we are seeking to reach and provide community access to our facility. The Red Shift Gallery seeks to assist the Aboriginal community by promoting the arts and aiding the community through programs, available resources and professional support. Our community outreach will have a focus on the youth and those who are in need of opportunity. However, The Red Shift Gallery also seeks to support emerging, mid-career and established Aboriginal artists and curators. It is our desire to demonstrate our support to visual, performance, inter-disciplinary, multi-media and new media artists, writers and curators, providing the payment of artist fees with the payment of artists fees using the CARFAC rates as a minimum. We are open and free of charge to the general public. Our target audience is Aboriginal people, however, non- Aboriginal and Aboriginal people alike will benefit from the issues brought forward by our programming that raise awareness of First Nations and Aboriginal contemporary culture.
